Belongingness... I don't get it

Hi, my name is Miyahcore and I'm here to blab about something I only recently found the words to describe. I used to use the words nationalism or patriotism, but that's not what it is. The psychological desire for humans to feel a sense of loyalty and belonging to a group is called belongingness. The idea of that unwavering loyalty being in regards to something or somewhere you have no control over is quite puzzling to me.
